It’s been a fantastic month for our chamber with a very successful running of the “Party at the Lodge” on Friday the 16th.

Thanks to the efforts of our team we managed to attract 130 people to the event and pay for our expenses through the raffle and generous sponsors including our very own Mr Benny Parsons.

This was a team effort and I want to thank everyone who contributed to this very successful event and it’s an example of what we can all achieve when we work together.

Our Mandate

The Central Coast Chamber of Commerce mission is to promote & support business within our region. Our team of volunteer committee members give of their own time and resources towards this aim and we would welcome everyone’s continued support in this.

By contributing at a committee level, attending our events or simply promoting & using other businesses in the region, you are doing your part to fulfil our mandate. Every hour you give, dollar you spend or word of support or encouragement you give supports & promotes businesses and business owners.

Strategy Part #1 – Relationships

The first part of this year’s strategy has been to create events which get as many business people out from behind their desk (or wherever they work) and into some social events where they can unwind, connect with their peers and re-connect with the chamber.

Our “Party at the Lodge” was the biggest event for a while but we also celebrated the opening of the Good Life Pharmacy and Urban wall together over a few drinks this month.

If we can help you celebrate a milestone in your business, just let us know.

Our Strategy #2 -Identifying Pressing Issues

The second part of this year’ s strategy is identifying and working on the biggest challenges for businesses on the Central Coast.

To help us with this important work we will be sending out a survey of our members so that we can hear what’s of most importance to you. Keep an eye on this in the coming weeks it will arrive on your email,

Our survey will be sent to all members and other local businesses from Forth to the Burnie boundary.

To assist Penguin business owners, we have assigned Chris Whitelaw and Steven Dutton (both Penguin residents) to look into the specific issues which are important to Penguin business owners, in particular, the cricket ground redevelopment.

Strategy #3 – Fostering Cooperation

We are continuing to build our relationship with the Central Coast Council and have a meeting with them on the 17th of May. If you have any issues or concerns you would like us to raise in this meeting, feel free to email us at president@centralcoastcci.com before Wednesday 16th and we will raise your issue for you.

I also attended a combined Chamber meeting in Launceston will all the other Tasmanian Chambers of Commerce through the TCCI. We talked about common opportunities and threats and discussed working more closely together to be a united voice for business in the state.

Further to this meeting our local chamber allegiance of Burnie, Central Coast and Devonport, caught up for lunch in Ulverstone this month. Both the Burnie & Central Coast Chambers decided to back a push from the Devonport Chamber and local senators to attract the Qantas Training Facility to Devonport.

Supporting and working with the other chambers is important for us all and in turn, we will be able to count on their support with issues which are important to the Central Coast.

I also had the pleasure of having dinner and speaking at the Ulverstone Rotary club this month about the power of partnership. It was great to meet their members and hear that they had raised over $14 000 at their “Sparkle in the Dark” event, a brilliant effort by their club.

A Team Effort

As you can see, we’ve been busy as a team doing our bit to promote and support business in our region and we would like to do more. We are seeing a greater level of support & engagement in Chamber life which is exciting, and we added 10 new members this month, a testament to the cooperation and renewed vision which the Chamber now has.

If you would like to get involved with joining our efforts or would like to know more about what we do, feel free to call me or catch up with us at our weekly “Coffee with the Chamber” Event which is at 8 am Every Monday at the DepoT Food Company in Ulverstone.

Talk with you soon,
